As you may or may not be aware the Men's Firsts (ish) have managed to get into the final of the Welsh Shield, to be played this Saturday at Sophia Gardens. As we are up against Swansea University we expect them to come with a sizeable number of supporters and be typically vociferous (eg. loud !). Traditionally the finals weekend has been a brilliant 'day out' for all members of the club, not just those playing.
The 11.15 / 30 coach from Bridgend Rec. gets into Cardiff in plenty of time for the game (which is due to start at 3:30pm) and for the preceeding games, for those not inclined to appreciate the subtlties of other teams, there are two pubs within falling distance (lunch anyone) or of course a few hours in Cardiff (shopping ??) who knows. After the finals have been played we normally return to the pub on mass to victimise mercilessly those poor souls who have been unfortunate enough to play in front of the rest of the club; (a rareity now that we play in different parts of Bridgend), after the Kangaroo Court and Spud's traditionally very upbeat appraisal of the situation of hockey within Bridgend, South Wales etc and how it was all so much better when he was a bit younger.........well anyway
the coach will return to the Haywain around 7.30............ and then onwards and out.... or in the Chairman's case - down and out!
This will also be Iain Whitelock's last game as Captain of the firsts after a long and successful stint at the helm....so all the more reason to celebrate his imminent decline and wish him luck in the thirds next year.
We could do with as many voices down at WIS as possible please....so support the club if you can.... remember.... travel on the coach is great.
